OUR MISSION

Our mission is to raise awareness of obesity and its many impacts while striving to educate the public on how obesity can be avoided through healthy eating and active lifestyles.

Obesity is a serious, rising epidemic in our country. Nearly 93 million or approximately 42.4% of Americans are considered obese, and there are about 112,000 related deaths annually. Obesity is when someone has an excessive or abnormal accumulation of fat on their body that poses a risk to health. Anyone with a body mass index, or BMI, over 25 is considered overweight, and over 30 is considered obese. Obesity is difficult to get under control and is caused by multiple genetic, psychological, and environmental factors. Individuals with obesity are at a much higher risk for other diseases, impaired mobility, and a negative social stigma that commonly comes along with being obese. More than 50 health problems can be contributed to being overweight or obese. Some of these health problems include hypertension or high blood pressure, joint issues, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, and in the worst case, death. In the United States, socioeconomic status plays a massive role in obesity, as low-income minority populations see higher obesity and overweight rates. On top of that, obese Americans spend on average $1,429 more on medical expenses annually than non-obese Americans. Our goal is to create better policies for a healthier America and continue to educate and inform generations of the importance of weight management through community help and donations. Obesity is a treatable disease and is no one's to manage alone.

The purpose of this campaign is to drive the public’s awareness on the effects and impacts that obesity can lead to not only individuals, but their family and friends as well. Even though most people view obesity as an individual’s concern, that is usually not the case. In general, as an individual is overcome by disease, it creates a worry for the people that care about them. It is like when a mother worries about her child when the child is sick. This impact also takes place when it comes to obesity. Due to the accumulation of new health risks that obese people face, this gives family and friends more to worry about. In addition, with the worrisome thoughts aside, the restricted movement and habits of an obese individual may also impact the people around them. For example, the famous TLC show, “My 600-Lb. Life”, shows the different lives lived by many obese individuals and how their family and friends revolve around them. In one case, there is a scene where an obese mother, Ashley, has resulted in ordering her young child, Patrick, around to help with a few daily routines due to her restricted movement. Patrick  was only around 5 years old, an age where he is supposed to be having fun, yet he is tasked with daily house chores. Just by this single case alone, it shows how obesity plays a role troubling lives of not only the individual but the people around them as well.

Most obese people have put countless efforts into overcoming the situation, but as we mentioned above, obesity is difficult to get under control. Less than 1 percent of obese people are able to get back to normal body weight. And it gets more difficult because obese people usually think that they are fighting alone with no helps from others. The key to successfully overcoming obesity is the emotional aspect, it plays an important role, and this can only fulfill with help from families, friends, and society. Our non-profit website will design in a way that provides overall information about how to successfully overcome obesity, and it can be divided into two large topics. First, the topic would handle the traditional way to overcome, which involved regular exercise and a healthy diet. There is a lot of information and debates about exercise and diet plans are going on online, and we will focus on health. Although extreme plans might help people to lose weight in a short amount of time, there is a higher possibility of side effects. The whole reason for weight loss is to obtain a healthier lifestyle minimizing the risk is the priority. The second topic will cover the way to get help from society. There is a number of different programs and services that obese people can get help from, and people usually don’t know about these programs. Weight loss can get much easier when we get help from others, especially when the help is from a professional. We believe combining the information on these two topics can help the people while increasing public awareness of the seriousness of obesity.
